Gastropods (Snails)
There were lots of snails found. Here are just a few.
The best and most common snail was the Cyclonema. Unlike the internal molds
common in the Cincinnatian, the Cyclonema usually shows external shell features. The next three
pics are of Cyclonema.
The next two below are spired gastropods, that could be Paupospira.
Some of the internal molds found more closely resemble Monophacophorans. (see
below).
In some spots, the gastropods are so abundant that the rocks are loaded with
them. Here's one of those rocks.
It's early in the field trip. This Dry Dredger has begun to fill her box with
fossils. As you can see, most are gastropods.
