Fossils Found at Site 2
Bivalves (clams)
There were a lot more clams found at the second site, than at
the first. The two common types were Ambonychia and Caritodens,
both shown in the next shot. The second and third shot are Ambonychia, cast
and an internal molds, respectively. Note the surface features and the dark
brown coloring.
Another common bivalve found was Modiolopsis.
Trilobites
Just as with the first site, only fragments of Flexicalymene
and Isotelus were found. But on some rocks, both trilobite
fragments were found in great abundance. On the rock below, we see an Isotelus
hypostome in the lower left corner.
Gastropods
Cyclonema with shell features were abundant
here, as shown in the next two pictures. In the first picture, the snails are
mostly rested on top for the photograph, but one is on the surface of a slab. In
the second photo, they are both attached to the rock.
Cephalopods
Cephalopods were more common at the second site, too. Some
showed the internal features, such as the Siphuncle (first pic).
Some of the Cephalopods showed internal details of the
external chambers.
Most were just internal molds.
