Our November 2008 Dry Dredgers meeting had one thing the other meetings didn't have - a group photo of the members of the board we could round up after the formal part of the meeting. The idea came from Debby Scheid and with all the effort getting all attending board members in the same place, we still missed a couple for the photo.

A web page has also been prepared for more information about our board.
The November meeting was held a week earlier than usual due to Thanksgiving. Meetings are usually held on the fourth Friday of Jan, Feb, March, April, May, Sept, Oct and Nov. There is sometimes a June picnic meeting which includes a field trip.
At 7:15 pm, there was a beginners class, as is true most months. The beginner's class is one floor up from the meeting room. The general meeting room is room 201, on the second Floor of Braunstein Hall (formerly known as the Physics Building). The beginner's class is usually room 300 or 301.
The room for the beginner's class has dual screens and Greg
Courtney puts on a true multimedia presentation. This month, the topic for the
beginner's class was on glacial erratics and some of the rocks you can find.

Greg brought sample colorful, rounded stones as part of the
beginner's class.

Meanwhile, a floor below, the membership began to gather and take their seats in preparation for the 8 pm general meeting, presided by Jack Kallmeyer.
When there is a field trip the next day, there is usually a
slide show of the site to be visited and what kind of fossils you'll find the
next day. But since there is no field trip in November, Field Trip Chair Bob
Bross presented a recap of our 2008 field trips, complete with his usual good
humor.

Next, there are announcements of upcoming events from
professional and volunteer members of the Cincinnati Museum Center and local
colleges.

Then President Jack Kallmeyer drew numbers for lots of door
prizes!

And finally it was time for the feature lecture. This month
our guest speaker was Stanley Hedeen, author of a new book on the site, Big Bone
Lick: The Cradle of American Paleontology (2008). He brought the history and
paleontology of Big Bone Lick to life through discussion and images.

After the formal part of the meeting and the excellent
presentation, it was time for show and tell. Now that the fossil hunting season
is over (for most of us), it was time to see what interesting fossils people
found that year and to try to get them identified.
