We were greeted when we arrived at the Penn Dixie site by Jerry Bastedo at the welcome shelter. This is where we paid our $7 admission and received tons of information about Penn Dixie, the events being held, the fossils you can find and the geologic formations exposed here. Jerry was a big help during our entire visit, answering questions and checking on our progress.

The Penn Dixie site is a large, fairly flat area that exposes the Windom Shale, with the Tichenor limestone at its base and the Wanaka Shale, all of which are part of the Moscow Formation of the Hamilton Group. The age is middle Devonian.

Here are some photos of the site and the information available. For more information on the Penn Dixie Site, see www.penndixie.org

Here is a nice panorama of the site, taken by Bill Heimbrock.

And now, some digging pictures...

What did we find? Click here for the first page of the many fossils we found (Trilobites!)..
